Conceptboard offers you a tool to analyse the visual content on the board and identify potential accessibility failures. All results are shown on the left side panel of your board. They include the issue description, its severity level and our recommendations for available fixes.
As long as a board is empty, accessibility checker is dormant. The default view prompts you to set a scope for the upcoming check - be it the entire boards or only single items.
Setting 1: Single Items
In the picture above, the default setting is chosen to scan separate items. It is evident that some choices of colours and textures do not fulfil accessibility demands:
- a white rectangle on the light grey background is only lined by a pale frame that does not provide enough contrast
- text colour of "Test" is too light to stand out against its background
- text colour of "Test" on the sticky note is indistinguishable from the sticky note itself
=> Let's initiate a "Check for issues"!
Results at a glance
Check results will point you to the issues that need attentions. We will also suggest possible fixes to resolve these issues with the explanation of their reasoning and rationale. Special emphasis is put on colour contrast and, if present, the lack of descriptions in board tables. Contrast levels are evaluated against the WCAG 2.1 AA guidelines.
You can choose to apply suggested changes and fixes
Once all the fixes are applied, the notification will be turned to green
Setting 2: Entire Board
1. Open the panel and set the scan scope
Open the Accessibility Checker via "Insert" → "Widgets" → "Accessibility Checker" → "Entire Board". The live accessibility status immediately shows how many issues need attention and the standard against which the check was performed (review against WCAG 2.1 AA standards).
Use the Scan scope section to control which objects are analysed:
- Entire board – checks all objects on the entire board.
- Only objects created by me – limits the check to your own objects.
2. View issues in detail
Expand a category to display individual findings. Each affected object appears as a card showing the object type (e.g. Table, Shape) and a direct comparison:
- Current – the current value, e.g. a contrast ratio of 1.0:1.
- Correction – the recommended value that meets the requirement, e.g. 3.0:1.
3. Locate the affected object on the board
Select an entry to find the corresponding object directly on the canvas. The affected object is highlighted on the board (red outline) so you can identify it immediately.
4. Apply the correction
Click Apply correction to apply the recommended adjustment directly. The object is updated on the board accordingly, the issue is considered resolved. The total number of open issues decreases (in the example, from 12 to 11).
